• What is the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party?

    The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes place one weekend each June in Madison Square Park and surrounding streets, attracting people from near and far to celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions. Event admission is free, with award-winning barbecue and Southern-inspired fare from the country’s top pitmasters available for $9/plate. Live performances from emerging and established rock, blues and soul artists take place onstage throughout the day.

  • What is a pitmaster?
    A pitmaster is a barbecue authority who cooks up mouthwatering ‘cue. At the event, you’ll have the opportunity to sample ‘cue from the nation’s top, award-winning pitmasters from barbecue capitals like Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois and more.
  • How do I purchase food and beverages at the event?
    Admission to the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is free, so no ticket is needed to attend. Barbecue is sold directly at the pitmaster’s rigs for $9 per plate. Desserts and Beverages may be purchased from $3 - $8. Only cash (and FastPasses, BigPiggin’ Passes) will be accepted.
  • What is a FastPass?

    A FastPass allows the holder and one guest exclusive access to express lines for barbecue. FastPasses are day specific, and may be purchased for either Saturday or Sunday of the event, which means shorter lines and less wait time between you and your favorite rack of ribs. FastPasses are $125 each, and include a $100 value redeemable for food and beverage on the chosen day only.

  • What is a BigPiggin’ Pass?

    A BigPiggin’ Pass allows the holder exclusive access to a new VIP Hospitality area of Madison Square Park, not previously offered to Big Apple Barbecue Block Party attendees! Highlights of the VIP experience include a complimentary buffet of barbecue and Southern fare from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events to complement the 17 award-winning pits smoking up Madison Square Park. The day-long Open Bar of Wine, Beer, Specialty Cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages invites BigPiggin’ Pass holders to relax on the front porch-inspired seating and air-conditioned restrooms round out the ultimate ‘cue lover’s Big Apple Barbecue Block Party experience.

    And it doesn’t stop there! A BigPiggin’ Pass allows the holder access to express lines for barbecue and includes $100 redeemable for food and beverage on the chosen day only. BigPiggin’ Passes are $265 each, valid for the pass holder on the chosen day only, and may be purchased for either Saturday or Sunday of the event.

  • Do I need to purchase a ticket for the Music Stage?
    No. The performances and demonstrations are free!
  • What culinary offerings can I expect to find at the event?
    The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party offers a selection of different barbecue styles and items, from pulled pork sandwiches, to ribs, sausage, and brisket, alongside Southern sides and desserts. We also host a Beer Garden within the park, and more delicious debuts to be announced later this Spring!

  • Where is the Box Office?

    The Box Office is located in Madison Square Park east of the main lawn between 24th & 25th Streets. It will be open on Saturday, June 7th from 9:30am - 6pm and on Sunday, June 8th from 9:30am – 4pm. Passes purchased in advance may be picked up at the Box Office with a photo ID, and any remaining passes will be available for purchase, while supplies last. But they are going fast…so don’t miss out!

  • Where are the Beverage Areas?

    The North Bar near the North Fountain in the park is a great place to grab drinks and relax with friends! The South Bar is located at the south end of the park, by the South Fountain and the Music Stage.

  • What are the seating options?

    Park benches are available but they fill up fast; the lawns will be open to the public (weather permitting) and guests are invited to bring chairs and blankets to sit on!

  • Can I exchange my pass for a different day if the weather is bad?

    As a fundraiser for the park that hosts the annual event, all FastPass and BigPiggin’ Sales are non-transferable and final sale.
